Much as I loved my site’s old look, it was getting a little hard on the eyes. So here’s to a new theme! I think I’ve got things working here, but if you come across anything buggy, let me know!
Check out the new look for this site! Mostly operational, I hope!
In other news, I went out and bought, “No Plot? No Problem!”, the guidebook for NaNoWritMo. I have my Magna Cartas all ready to go, but am still trying to decide what to write. Decisions, decisions!
I fell asleep while trying to edit one of my short stories. I was only on page two. What does this mean?
(a) The story gets off to a slow start, so I’d better work on that beginning.
(b) I need more than 5 hours of sleep a night, or more than 2 cups of coffee a day.
(c) I was sitting on the sofa of sudden death.
(d) All of the above.
Mmmm . . . . I’m going to go with (d), though (c) is mostly to blame.
Several years back I had an excellent idea for a short story. It came to me during a long drive and involved construction zones. I drafted up the story, rewrote it about nine times, and finally decided to enter it in a contest. It didn’t win, and I didn’t look at it again, until a few weeks ago, when I discovered it was total crap.
So, about a week ago, I decided to revise it yet again, and switched it from first person to third person. I then spent several days trying to get quiet time to really edit it, and made it through all of one page.
Last weekend I had a highlight appointment scheduled, so I took along my draft, and, while I was sitting there under the dryer, I had my best twenty minutes of editing time in possibly the last three years.
It wasn’t quiet, but there’s something to be said for the white noise effect of a hairdryer. No children, no TV, no radio. For that brief time, I was so focused that I even forgot where I was. It was awesome! I had forgotten how great that kind of focus feels.
Excuse the mess. I’m doing some remodeling.
